The attached file contains detailed human and animal populations by sub-watershed. There are 21 sub-watersheds. I tried my best to describe each sub-watershed and make a location map for each, but if it’s still confusing, come to the public meeting and you can visualize everything on the big map we’ll have there!
Although I’ve called this a ‘handout,’ I’ll only have a couple copies at the public meeting - if you want one of your own to keep, feel free to print this one out
.
As a brief overview: cattle numbers are based on pasture areas and area-specific stocking rates provided by VCE and NRCS; other livestock numbers are based on local expertise or animals we observed in the watershed; wildlife numbers are based on estimates from various sources and have been reviewed by VDGIF; human populations are based on a combination of house locations from USGS 7.5 min quads, household populations from the US Census, and straight pipe and septic failure rates from experts at VDH. I’ll go into the methodology more at the public meeting.
Hope to see everyone on the 28th!
