During the April 4, 2005 Informational Meeting, an attempt was made to develop Focus Groups based on the various pollutants contributing to the stress on the benthic community in Stroubles Creek. The following are notes from the 3 groups that initially emerged:
o Sediment:

o Nutrients and Organic Matter:

o Hydrologic Modification:

After witnessing the struggles of the original Focus Groups and after much discussion with the project team, we decided that the discussions within the Focus Groups could be more focused and more productive, if we organized around three sectors of the watershed: Agriculture/Rural, Residential/Urban, and Public Works. These groups were chosen to best reflect how the problems identified in the TMDL study might be addressed. In this way, the same set of tasks will be performed by each Focus Group to address the identified problems relevant to their group. The following document provides a little more detail on the identified problems and tasks.

While some of the problems overlap sectors, they may be addressed in slightly different ways in each sector. Where common management measures seem appropriate, the Steering Committee can then serve to integrate the solutions.
These groups are not meant to be hard and fast. There may be issues that several Focus Groups want to discuss jointly, and other issues where a Focus Group wants to split into several sub-groups.
Public participation in these new Focus Groups will be invited during the June 1st public meeting. Post cards will be available for those people who want to think about it first, or who may not want to openly declare their interest in an open public meeting. Tentative dates for the first meeting of these Focus Groups will be scheduled at the end of the public meeting.
