Hello, and thanks to everyone who came out to the public meeting on August 16! I’ve included here the presentation (http://www.tmdl.bse.vt.edu/uploads/File/forum/PGG_FirstPublicMeeting.ppt (2.4MB)) and detailed animal numbers (http://www.tmdl.bse.vt.edu/uploads/File/forum/PublicMeetingSummary.xls (43KB)) from the meeting last night.

Expect a map of labeled subwatersheds soon to compare with the animal numbers. As always, if you have any comments, reply to this forum or contact me directly.

Here is the map of the Pigg River Watershed http://www.tmdl.bse.vt.edu/uploads/File/forum/Piggmap.pdf
The subwatershed are number from 1 to 23. State routes US 40 and US 220 are shown to help in identifying the locations.

Hi folks,
I’d like to add some technical comments on sampling methods for TMDLs. There is an automated sampling method called Turbidity Threshold Sampling that could have applications for listed watersheds. The idea is to drive automatic water sampling by using real-time turbidity as surrogate for suspended sediment, FC, Hg, and phosphorus. This monitoring method can produce accurate estimates of sediment and contaminate loads.

We had a second try at a first public meeting on October 27, 2005. We had a great turnout in spite of the VT football game! I have updated the files for this project (http://www.tmdl.bse.vt.edu/uploads/File/forum/PGG_FirstPublicMeeting.ppt (2.4MB) and http://www.tmdl.bse.vt.edu/uploads/File/forum/PublicMeetingSummary.xls (43KB)) with the information presented at that meeting. The only real change was in the beef numbers. Soon I hope to post some revised information based on comments I received from stakeholders at both meetings.

Again, please contact me if you have comments on this information!
