Final Public Meeting for the North Fork and South Fork Pound Rivers TMDL

The final public meeting for the North Fork and South Fork of the Pound River (aquatic life impairment) will be held at Pound Town Hall, 8422 North River Rd, Pound,
Virginia, on Monday March 24, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

DEQ has been working to identify sources of pollutants affecting the aquatic organisms in the waters of the North and South Fork Pound Rivers.  The South Fork Pound River flows along Route 671 and confluences with the North Fork Pound River in the Town of Pound along Bus. 23 in Wise County, Virginia. The “impaired” stream segments are estimated to total approximately 7.64 miles. The stream is impaired for failing to meet the Aquatic Life Use based on violations of the general standard for aquatic organisms.

DEQ accepts written comments by e-mail, fax or postal mail. Written comments should include the name, address and telephone number of the person commenting and be received by DEQ during the comment period, March 24, 2008 to April 24, 2008. DEQ also accepts written and oral comments at the public meeting announced in this notice.

The draft TMDL report on the impaired waters is available after March 21, 2008 on the DEQ web site at www.deq.virginia.gov/tmdl.

The final public meeting for the Bull Creek TMDL (aquatic life impairment) will be held at Harman Memorial Baptist Church Christian Center, on
Route 609 off Route 460 in Maxie, Virginia, on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

DEQ accepts written comments by e-mail, fax or postal mail. Written comments should include the name, address and telephone number of the
person commenting and be received by DEQ during the comment period, March 20, 2008 to April 21, 2008. DEQ also accepts written and oral comments at the public
meeting announced in this notice.

The draft TMDL report on the impaired waters is available after March 19, 2008 on the DEQ web site at www.deq.virginia.gov/tmdl.

Mill and Powhatan Creek Bacteria TMDL Report

Hays/Moffatts Final Public Meeting

The final public meeting on the development of TMDLs for Hays Creek, Moffatts Creek, Walker Creek, and Otts Creek in Augusta and Rockbridge Counties will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department, 5024 Maury River Rd., Rockbridge Baths, VA. In the event of inclement weather on the designated meeting date, the meeting will be moved to January 31st at 7:00 p.m. The decision to postpone the meeting will be determined by the Rockbridge County School schedule.

First Public Meeting for Bull Creek

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Department of  Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) are beginning the public participation process for water quality studies or Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) studies for Bull Creek in Buchanan County.  As part of the TMDL study process, we are holding a public meeting in the watershed.  The purpose of the meeting is to solicit  input from agencies, localities and citizens to guide the TMDL development. The initial public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 4 at 7PM at the Harman Memorial Baptist Church Christian Center on Rt. 609 off Rt. 460 in Maxie, Virginia.  We wish to ensure that all stakeholders have an opportunity to participate in this meeting.

The first public meeting for the Mill Creek and Powhatan Creek TMDL

The first public meeting for the Mill and Powhatan Creek bacteria TMDL is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00pm in the James City Williamsburg Community Center, 5301 Longhill Road, Williamsburg. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the TMDL development process and to share information on bacteria sources in the watershed. A Technical Advisory Committee will also form and meet immediately after the public meeting.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Conservation and Recreation are announcing a public meeting and public comment opportunity on the
draft water quality improvement study or Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL).

The final public meeting will be held at the Cedar Bluff Town Hall, 115 Central Ave, in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, on September 17, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Final Public Meeting for Hardware River

The final public meeting for the Hardware River TMDL will be held on Sept 25, 2007 at 7PM at the Scottsville Town Council Chambers, 401 Valley Street, Scottsville, VA. This project will address bacteria TMDLs for two reaches on the River. The Hardware River was listed on the 2002 303(d) TMDL Priority List and Report as impaired due to violations of the State's water quality standard for bacteria. This impairment extends for 23.11 miles from the headwaters to the confluence with the James River. The North Fork Hardware River was listed on the 2004 303(d) TMDL Priority List and Report as impaired due to violations of the State's water quality standard for bacteria. This impairment extends for 10.39 miles from the headwaters to the confluence with the Hardware River.

Lick Creek TMDL Final Public Meeting

The final public meeting for the Lick Creek TMDL (aquatic life and bacteria impairments) will be held at 7pm on July 16th, 2007. The meeting will be held at the Dante Lives On facility beside the Dante Post Office in the old Clinchfield Coal Office Building in Dante Virginia. To reach this location from St. Paul, travel on Route 63 to Dante and exit to downtown Dante. When you reach the Post Office the meeting room is located in the building beside the store next to this Post Office. Turn onto the bridge and park behind the office building. The meeting entry is from the parking area. All are welcome to attend.

WEF TMDL 2007 Conference

WEF TMDL 2007 Conference to be held in Bellevue, Washington, USA, June 24-27, 2007. The Water Environment Federation's TMDL Conferences have brought together hundreds of environmental experts to exchange information on challenging issues related to the TMDL process over the last five years. The Center (Dr. Brian Benham) will make two presentations at this meeting: Development and Evaluation of TMDL Planning and Assessment Tools and Processes: Perspectives and Products from a USDA Funded Multi-state Research Project, and TMDL Implementation: Lessons Learned.
